As a key member of the national engineering team, the Regional Engineering Manager (REM) will lead the operational and commercial performance of their assigned regions (Northern England and Scotland). This role is fundamental in driving service excellence, ensuring compliance, and supporting a high-performing engineering team aligned with Plant and Safety’s strategic goals.
The REM will combine leadership responsibilities with hands-on engineering expertise, delivering statutory inspections and examinations while supporting the development and success of the regional team.
This is a hybrid role and will require the REM to carry out on site thorough examination, inspection, and testing services as required by the business. Ideal candidate must be able to commute to the head office in Cannock.
The main responsibilities will be focused around four key areas:
Business, Commercial & Financial Management
- Oversee the financial performance of the region, ensuring revenue targets and cost controls are met.
- Drive operational efficiency and productivity to exceed KPIs related to profitability, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring service excellence and long-term customer retention.
- Ensure engineering resources are aligned with current and future customer requirements.
Engineering Management, Leadership, and Development of People
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of field engineers, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regional engineering matters, providing day-to-day support and guidance.
- Identify training needs and deliver coaching, mentoring, and structured development plans.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and support career progression in line with company objectives.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and induction of new engineering staff in collaboration with the Technical Director.
Hands-On Engineering & Support
- Maintain personal technical competency by conducting statutory inspections, testing, and certification services as required.
- Provide on-site support for complex or high-risk jobs, ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including sales and administration, to ensure seamless service delivery from quotation to invoicing.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support the technical department’s effectiveness.
Technical Auditing & Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular technical audits and competency assessments to ensure compliance with statutory and company standards.
- Ensure adherence to company, technical, and safety processes and procedures, including relevant regulations and statutory requirements.
- Act as the regional Subject Matter Expert (SME), offering technical guidance to engineers and clients.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all statutory reports and documentation.
- Promote continuous improvement and keep the team informed of changes in legislation, standards, and internal procedures.
Any other duties required by the business which are considered reasonable and in line with the responsibilities of the role.
