Crane Supervisors and Lift Supervisors play a crucial role within the lifting industry. The role of the Lift Supervisor is to supervise the lifting operation whilst ensuring a safe system of work in accordance with the method statement. Crane Supervisors and Lift Supervisors are required to work in accordance with the relevant legislation and standards, including LOLER 1998 and BS 7121. 

Our NPORS Crane/ Lift Supervisor training course (N405 ) is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and training qualifications to allow a person to carry out the duties of a Crane / Lift Supervisor in accordance with the relevant legislation, best practice, and standards. The training course is available as a Plant and Safety Certified training course, or an NPORS Accredited training course. The NPORS training course reference is NPORS Crane / Lift Supervisor N405.

Course Aims:

To teach the delegate how to safely and correctly supervise crane and lifting operations in accordance with LOLER 1998 and BS 7121. To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas: 

  • To have a basic understanding of the relevant regulations including LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and BS 7121
  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a crane / lift supervisor
  • Explain the importance of locating and identifying different types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories. Explain their basic construction, uses, applications and functions
  • Demonstrate how to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
  • Explain and demonstrate diverse types of communication methods used for lifting purposes
  • Explain procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service
  • Explain the function and use of the RCIs and anti-collision systems and use the information provided
  • Explain setting up, erection, levelling and dismantling requirements for diverse types of lifting equipment and lifts
  • Set up exclusion zone explaining actions required for emergency actions and identify overhead hazards
  • Identify potential hazards and unsafe lifting practices using different lifting scenarios
  • Explain the importance of checking the security of various types of loads and lifting accessories, explain the procedures ensuring load balance and integrity
  • Supervise the movement of loads to different types of locations using different methods of communication
  • Explain all Environmental considerations and explain how factors such as the external area to the lift zone can affect the planning of the lifting operation
  • Carry out all out-of-service and securing procedures

Duration and Experience Levels

This course is as a Novice, Refresher, and Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) training course. The duration of the training course will be 1-3 days (Depending on experience and previous qualifications)

Accreditation/ Certification:

Upon successful completion of this training course, the learner will receive either a Plant and Safety Certified or NPORS Accredited Training Course (Depending on the learners requirements)
