Vehicle Marshals play a crucial role within the operations of moving and controlling vehicles on site. The role of the vehicle marshal is to maintain contact with the driver whilst using correct hand signals whilst a vehicle is being manoeuvred. Vehicle Marshals are required to work in accordance with the relevant legislation and standards. 

Our NPORS Vehicle Marshal training course N403 is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and training qualifications to allow a person to safely supervise the movement of vehicles in compliance with the relevant legislation, best practice, and standards.

The training course is available as a Plant and Safety Certified training course, or an NPORS Accredited training course. The NPORS training course reference is NPORS Vehicle Marshal N403.

Our training courses meet the latest standards set by the Accrediting Bodies Association – Workplace Transport (ABA) and the National Plant Operator Registration Scheme (NPORS), who are advised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Course Aims:

To teach the delegate how to safely and correctly Sling and Signal in accordance with LOLER 1998 and BS 7121. To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas: 

  • To teach the delegate how to safely and correctly direct a driver who is manoeuvring a vehicle in accordance with British Standards Institute, HSE and OEM Guidance
  • To have a basic understanding of the relevant regulations
  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a Vehicle Marshal Banksman
  • Be able to identify and explain different types of hand signals and their meanings.
  • Be able to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
  • Explain procedures for providing clear safety instructions to operators
  • Identify and explain the key segregated routes are used by traffic and pedestrians
  • Set up exclusion zone explaining actions required for emergency actions, identifying any overhead hazards
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Vehicle Marshal

Duration and Experience Levels

This course is as a Novice, Refresher, and Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) training course. The duration of the training course will be 1 day (Depending on experience and previous qualifications)

Accreditation/ Certification:

Upon successful completion of this training course, the learner will receive either a Plant and Safety Certified or NPORS Accredited Training Course (Depending on the learners requirements)
