Overhead Gantry Cranes are one of the most common and widely used cranes within the workplace. They are typically used across a wide variety of sectors such as the industrial, engineering, and manufacturing environments.
Our NPORS N104 Overhead Gantry Crane training course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and training qualifications to allow a person to safely and effectively operate an Overhead Gantry Crane within the workplace.

Training Course Name: Safe Use of Overhead Gantry Cranes (Plant and Safety Course Name)
NPORS Overhead Crane N104
Course Aims: To teach the delegate how to safely operate a pendant or remote-controlled overhead gantry crane. To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- To have a basic understanding of the relevant regulations including LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Set up an exclusion zone
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for overhead crane use
- Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Prepare the overhead crane for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Carry out all end of work and shut down procedures
Duration and Experience Levels: This course is as a Novice, Refresher, and Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) training course. The duration of the training course will be 1-3 days (Depending on experience and previous qualifications)
Accreditation/ Certification: Upon successful completion of this training course, the learner will receive either a Plant and Safety Certified or NPORS Accredited Training Course (Depending on the learners requirements)
