Training Course Name: Safe Use of Overhead Gantry Cranes (Plant and Safety Course Name)
NPORS Overhead Crane N104
Course Aims: To teach the delegate how to safely operate a pendant or remote-controlled overhead gantry crane. To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- To have a basic understanding of the relevant regulations including LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Set up an exclusion zone
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for overhead crane use
- Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Prepare the overhead crane for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Carry out all end of work and shut down procedures
Duration and Experience Levels: This course is as a Novice, Refresher, and Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) training course. The duration of the training course will be 1-3 days (Depending on experience and previous qualifications)
Accreditation/ Certification: Upon successful completion of this training course, the learner will receive either a Plant and Safety Certified or NPORS Accredited Training Course (Depending on the learners requirements)
