Learn how to safely operate a Lorry Loader Crane

Lorry and Truck Mounted Loader Cranes are the most common and widely used loader cranes within the transport and construction industry. They are highly effective and efficient at loading and unloading materials on site. Commonly known manufacturers of Lorry Loader cranes include Palfinger, Hiab, Penny Hydraulics, and Fassi.

Our NPORS Lorry Loader training course (N107) is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and training qualifications to allow a person to safely and effectively operate a Lorry Loader Crane within the workplace. 

The training course is available as a Plant and Safety Certified training course, or an NPORS Accredited training course. The NPORS training course reference is NPORS Lorry Loader N107.

Our training courses meet the latest standards set by the Accrediting Bodies Association – Workplace Transport (ABA) and the National Plant Operator Registration Scheme (NPORS), who are advised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Training Course Name:

  • Safe Use and Operation of Lorry Loader Cranes (Plant and Safety Course Name)
  • NPORS Lorry Loader N107

Course Aims:

To teach the delegate how to safely operate a lorry loader crane. To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas: 

  • To have a basic understanding of the relevant regulations including LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and other sources of information, regulations and legislation applicable to the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the vehicle and loader crane and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify all operating controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Configure the vehicle and loader crane ready for travel
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out lifting duties
  • Correctly deploy the stabilisers according to the stated manufacturer’s specifications
  • Comply with all requirements for rated capacity indicators or load moment indicators
  • Identify weights and centres of gravity of loads to be used
  • Carry out lifting operations using the full capabilities of the loader crane
  • Position loads accurately at designated locations including onto and from the vehicle
  • Identify, fit and remove various attachments and lifting accessories as appropriate
  • Minimise load swing and ensure load security on the vehicle
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Duration and Experience Levels

This course is as a Novice, Refresher, and Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) training course. The duration of the training course will be 1-2 days (Depending on experience and previous qualifications)

Accreditation/ Certification:

Upon successful completion of this training course, the learner will receive either a Plant and Safety Certified or NPORS Accredited Training Course (Depending on the learners requirements)
